Sprøjtepistolen, often referred to as a spray gun in English, is a tool used to apply a coating, such as paint, lacquer, or ink, onto a surface by atomizing the material and propelling it forward as a spray. The primary mechanism involves a fluid reservoir, a nozzle, and a source of compressed air or another propellant. As the trigger is pulled, the propellant is released, drawing the fluid from the reservoir and breaking it down into fine droplets that are then directed towards the target surface.

There are several types of spray guns, each suited for different applications. Airless spray guns use high pressure to atomize the coating without the need for compressed air, making them efficient for large areas. HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) spray guns use a large volume of air at low pressure, which results in less overspray and material waste, making them ideal for detailed work or when working with solvent-based coatings. Air-assisted airless spray guns combine aspects of both HVLP and airless systems, offering good atomization and control.

The application of a spray gun is extensive, ranging from automotive painting and furniture finishing to industrial coating and even artistic endeavors. The evenness of application and the ability to cover large or irregularly shaped surfaces quickly are key advantages. Proper technique, including maintaining a consistent distance and speed, is crucial for achieving a smooth and uniform finish. Maintenance, such as regular cleaning of the nozzle and internal components, is also essential for the longevity and performance of the tool.
