Spaustuvs

Spaustuvs is a term used for a printing press or printing house, a facility where text and images are transferred to paper or other substrates. Historically, spaustuvs combined typesetting, ink, and a press to reproduce copies of manuscripts, books, newspapers, and ephemera. The concept emerged in Europe in the 15th century with movable-type technology and spread to the Baltic and Eastern Europe in subsequent centuries. Spaustuvs operated as private workshops, guilds, or state-run institutions and played a central role in the spread of literacy, science, and national literature, often influencing language standardization and cultural development.
