Sormiruoka

Sormiruoka, literally finger food in Finnish, refers to small, bite-sized foods designed to be eaten with fingers rather than utensils. The term covers a broad range of items that are easy to pick up, such as canapés, small skewers, mini pastries, bite-sized sandwiches, and hors d'oeuvres. Sormiruoka is commonly served at parties, receptions, buffets, and other social gatherings as appetizers or as part of a buffet.

A typical sormiruoka presentation emphasizes convenience, visual appeal, and variety. Foods are usually designed to be eaten in one or two bites and may be served at room temperature or warm. Common categories include fish and seafood bites (smoked salmon canapés, shrimp skewers), meat and poultry morsels (mini meatballs, sliders), vegetable and cheese bites, plus pastries and baked goods such as puff pastry twists or small tarts. Skewers or toothpicks are often used to facilitate handling.
