Smederij

Smederij is a term used in several South Slavic languages to denote a blacksmith’s workshop or a metalworking shop. The word is linked to smedar or smedar, referring to the occupation of a blacksmith or metalworker, and describes the place where metal is shaped and finished.

Historically, smederije were important in local economies, often situated in town centers or near markets. A typical workshop combined a forge, an anvil, a furnace or bellows, and a range of tools such as hammers, tongs, chisels, and rasps. Blacksmiths worked primarily with iron and steel, producing tools, agricultural implements, horseshoes, hardware, and sometimes weapons or decorative items.
