The phenomenon intersects with reclamation, reappropriation, and metaphorical bridging, wherein language constructs draw lines of solidarity or critique by reusing stigmatized terms in controlled contexts.

The term is relatively new and appears in online discussions and early scholarly commentary from the late 2010s onward. It has not been standardized in mainstream linguistic literature, but it is used to discuss how marginalized communities negotiate the meaning of slurs within in-group discourse and in cross-community communication.
