Slundras

Slundras refers to a small semi‑aquatic amphibian species native to the marshlands of the northeastern region of the Vane Empire. The organism belongs to the family Ranidae and is formally known as *Rana slundras*. Individuals typically reach a length of 12 to 15 centimeters and have a distinctive dark speckled dorsal coloration that provides camouflage among wet reeds and cattails.

The species possesses a broad, flattened head and a short, muscular tail that aids in propulsive swimming. Its skin is moist and granular, containing a mild irritant that deters predators. Slundras are predominantly nocturnal, emerging from sheltered areas to feed on a diet of insects, small crustaceans, and aquatic worms. During the breeding season, males produce a deep, resonant call that can be heard up to 200 meters away, attracting females for communal spawning in stagnant pools.

Ecologically, Slundras plays a dual role. As a predator, it helps control insect populations that threaten crop yields, while as prey it supports a variety of avian and reptile species. In human culture, the creature has been referenced in local folklore as a symbol of resilience, often appearing in stories that emphasize the importance of adaptability in shifting environments. The species is currently classified as Least Concern by the Vane Environmental Agency, though habitat degradation from agricultural expansion remains a potential threat.
