Skruvstift

A skruvstift, also known as a thread insert or screw bushing, is a fastening device used to repair or reinforce threads in various materials. It typically consists of a helical coil of wire made of stainless steel or bronze, designed to be screwed into a pre-tapped hole. Once installed, the skruvstift provides a new, stronger internal thread that can accept a standard screw.

The primary function of a skruvstift is to create durable, wear-resistant threads in softer materials like aluminum, magnesium, plastics, or wood, where the original threads might be prone to stripping or damage. They are also commonly used in applications where repeated assembly and disassembly of components can weaken the original threads over time.

Installation of a skruvstift usually involves drilling out the damaged or weak thread to a specific size, then tapping a new thread with a special tap provided with the skruvstift kit. The skruvstift itself is then screwed into the newly tapped hole, often using an installation tool. Once seated, it becomes a permanent part of the assembly, offering a robust threaded connection.
