The name honors Oliver Tambo, a prominent anti-apartheid leader, whose surname, *Sisulu*, was often associated with resistance and cultural resilience during the struggle against apartheid. The term gained traction in the 1990s as a symbol of post-apartheid creativity and identity, emphasizing traditional weaving techniques while incorporating modern themes.
