In general, simítás aims to achieve a more uniform, regular appearance or behavior.

In crafts, manufacturing and material work, simítás denotes the process of smoothing a surface or edge. This commonly involves steps such as grinding, sanding, and polishing, often progressing from coarser to finer abrasives to remove defects, burrs, and unevenness. The goal is a durable, aesthetically satisfactory finish and, in some cases, a preparation for coating or painting.
