Signaalitöölöintiä, often translated as "signal trolling," is a practice observed in various online contexts, particularly in gaming communities and forums. It refers to the deliberate act of sending misleading or irrelevant signals, either verbally or through in-game actions, to disrupt communication, sow confusion, or elicit a specific, often negative, reaction from other participants. This can manifest in several ways.

In multiplayer games, players might use in-game chat to spread false information about enemy locations, objectives, or strategies. This can lead to teammates making poor decisions, wasting resources, or falling into traps. It can also involve intentionally misinterpreting or ignoring team communication to create disarray. Outside of games, signaalitöölöintiä can occur in online discussions where individuals might post off-topic remarks, nonsensical arguments, or deliberately misrepresent others' points of view to derail a conversation or provoke anger.

The motivations behind signaalitöölöintiä vary. Some individuals engage in it for amusement, seeking to entertain themselves by observing the confusion they create.
