Shumbha

Shumbha is a prominent figure in Hindu mythology, primarily known as a powerful Asura (demon) king who plays a significant role in the Devi Mahatmya, a sacred text within Shaktism. He is often depicted as a formidable adversary of the gods and a symbol of ego and material ambition.

According to the scriptures, Shumbha, along with his brother Nishumbha, amassed great power through intense penance and the boon of near invincibility. This power enabled them to conquer the heavens and oppress the celestial beings. Their reign of terror forced the gods to seek refuge and the intervention of the divine feminine energy, Devi.
