Shenzhens

Shenzhens, commonly known as Shenzhen, is a major city in Guangdong Province, China. It lies immediately north of Hong Kong, at the southern end of the Pearl River Delta. The city encompasses coastal plains, hills, and densely built urban districts.

Shenzhen originated as a small fishing and market town in the late 19th century. Its rapid transformation began in 1980 when China established the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, attracting foreign investment and export-oriented manufacturing. From these beginnings, Shenzhen evolved into a leading manufacturing center and later a global hub for information technology and finance.

Economy and industry: Shenzhen is noted for electronics manufacturing, telecommunications, and software development. It hosts the headquarters or regional offices of numerous technology companies, including Tencent and Huawei. The Shenzhen Stock Exchange is a major financial institution within the city. The city is a core part of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and plays a key role in regional innovation and logistics.

Administration and demographics: Shenzhen is a prefecture-level city subdivided into districts such as Futian, Luohu, Nanshan, Bao'an, Longgang, Longhua, Pingshan, Yantian, and Dapeng New District. The population is in the tens of millions, with a large migrant workforce driving rapid urban growth.

Transportation and culture: Shenzhen is served by Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport and an extensive high-speed rail and metro network. Notable landmarks include the Ping An Finance Centre and various theme parks and cultural venues. The city hosts a growing arts scene and several universities, such as Shenzhen University and the Southern University of Science and Technology.
