Baoan

Bao'an (宝安区) is a district of Shenzhen, a sub-provincial city in Guangdong Province, China. Located in the northwestern part of Shenzhen, Bao'an includes urban neighborhoods, industrial zones, and suburban towns along the Pearl River estuary. It is an economic hub within the city, closely connected to Shenzhen’s manufacturing and logistics networks and home to the city’s main airport that serves the metropolitan area.

Historically, the area was Bao'an County (Bao'an Xian) under Guangdong administration. With Shenzhen’s rapid growth as a Special Economic Zone, Bao'an was reorganized as a district of Shenzhen in 2010, marking a shift from county-level administration to urban district governance.

Bao'an's economy blends manufacturing, electronics, and logistics with growing services. The district includes industrial parks and commercial districts and contains Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport, the city’s primary airport. The airport’s presence supports aviation-related industries and regional connectivity in western Shenzhen and the Pearl River Delta.

The district is densely populated and predominantly Han Chinese, with diverse urban communities, markets, and residential areas. It also contains several parks and cultural facilities that reflect Shenzhen’s rapid urbanization.

Bao'an is served by major road corridors and a developing metro network that connect it to central Shenzhen and neighboring cities, contributing to its role in the greater Shenzhen economy. The district also hosts numerous primary and secondary schools and vocational institutes as part of the city’s education system.
