Installation considerations include load requirements, appropriate hardware, locating studs or masonry anchors, spacing for items, and level mounting. In homes, shelves store books, decor, kitchenware, and supplies; in offices or retail, shelves accommodate merchandise and files.

Design and care: Shelves influence room aesthetics; materials may be finished or raw. Regular cleaning with appropriate products protects finish. Edges should be protected; use lip or front edge for small items; adjustability provides versatility.
