Selkäuinnissa is the Finnish term for backstroke swimming. It is one of the four competitive swimming strokes recognized by the International Swimming Federation (FINA), alongside freestyle, breaststroke, and butterfly. In selkäuinnissa, the swimmer lies on their back and propels themselves through the water using a flutter kick and alternating arm movements. The body remains relatively flat on the surface, with the face above the water for breathing.
