Schönhage

Schönhage is a surname of German origin. It is most commonly associated with the family of Gottlieb August Schönhage, a German pastor and scholar who lived in the 19th century. Gottlieb Schönhage was a known element of the family as a footnote in historical records from that time. He is most remembered for his contribution to Paleoslavistics, the study of Slavic languages, specifically Polish. Gottlieb studied Polish from an early age, which lead to him publishing an early set of Polish dictionaries in the 1830s.

Gottlieb's work has had lasting repercussions throughout history. His Słownik jezyka polskiego (Dictionary of the Polish language) was used as a source by many Polish translators and linguists in their work.
