Schukovariand

Schukovariand is a landlocked, constitutional republic in the fictional region of Valoria. Covering roughly 60,000 square kilometers, it features a mix of river valleys, rolling plains, and upland plateaus. The Schuk River forms a northern frontier, while the Sigha Highlands rise to the south. The capital and largest city is Valengrad, located in the central lowlands.

Etymology: The name derives from the Schukovari people and the historical suffix -and, used in several regional polities. The demonym is Schukovanian or Schukovarian.

Human settlement dates to the Bronze Age. In the medieval era, local principalities gradually unified, leading to independence as a republic in 1847. It joined a regional association in 1952 and became fully sovereign after its dissolution in 1991.

Schukovariand is a parliamentary republic with a president as head of state and a prime minister as head of government. The unicameral legislature, the National Assembly, has 75 seats. Elections are held every four years.

The economy is diversified, with services and light manufacturing predominant. Key sectors include agriculture (grain, dairy), textiles, and hydropower. The country has a modest export base and a small but well-developed domestic market. Transportation includes a national rail network and several international airports; Valengrad hosts the main international airport.

Population around 2.1 million; urbanization high with Valengrad, Korna, and Liria as major cities. Languages: Schukovarian (official); minority languages include Keldin.

Schukovan culture emphasizes regional folk music, crafts, and culinary traditions such as rye bread, smoked fish, and hearty soups. National holidays include Founding Day and Harvest Festival. Education and healthcare are publicly funded.
