Schreibpfad is a term used in German language education to describe a structured, step-by-step guide that supports students in the writing process. It functions as a scaffold or framework that makes the acts of planning, composing, and revising more transparent and manageable.

The main purpose of a Schreibpfad is to reduce cognitive load for writers by breaking a task into manageable stages. It helps learners organize ideas, develop a coherent text structure, and monitor progress. Typical stages include prewriting or planning, creating a text outline or first draft, drafting, revising content and structure, editing for language accuracy, and producing a final version. Some implementations also incorporate explicit goals, checklists, exemplars, and reflection prompts to foster metacognitive awareness about writing choices.

Schreibpfade are commonly used in primary and secondary classrooms and can be adapted to different genres such as narrative, descriptive, informative, or argumentative texts. They are also employed in digital learning environments and for second language acquisition, where additional supports (vocabulary prompts, sentence frames) may be provided.
