Schmitt Trigger Eingänge, often referred to as Schmitt triggers, are a type of electronic circuit that implements a Schmitt trigger function. This function is characterized by hysteresis, meaning the switching threshold for transitioning from a low to a high output state is different from the switching threshold for transitioning from a high to a low output state. This difference in thresholds is known as hysteresis voltage.

The primary purpose of a Schmitt trigger input is to provide noise immunity and to convert slowly changing or noisy input signals into clean, sharp digital pulses. When a signal crosses the upper threshold, the output switches to one state, and it only switches back when the signal falls below the lower threshold. This hysteresis prevents the output from oscillating or chattering when the input signal hovers around a single threshold.

Schmitt trigger inputs are commonly found in digital logic integrated circuits. They are used to interface with external components that may produce slow or noisy signals, such as mechanical switches, sensors, or long signal lines. By employing a Schmitt trigger input, the digital circuit can reliably interpret the input signal, preventing false triggering due to noise.
