Schachtrohre

Schachtrohre are cylindrical tubes used in vertical shafts to line, protect, and equip the shaft interior. They are employed in mining, civil engineering, and geotechnical projects to provide a stable, inspectable conduit for ventilation, water, lifted materials, and installed equipment. Schachtrohre can function as shaft linings, casings, or sleeves that separate the shaft from surrounding rock and groundwater, reducing ground movement and preventing collapse.

Materials and variants vary by application. Common options include steel tubes, steel liners with corrosion protection, reinforced concrete linings, and modern composites such as fiber-reinforced polymers. Segmented steel shafts are often connected by flanges or welded joints, while concrete linings may be cast in place or assembled from pre-fabricated rings. The choice of material depends on load, groundwater conditions, desired lifespan, and the need for inspection access.

Construction and installation methods differ accordingly. Shaft sinking may incorporate the insertion of steel tubes during excavation, or a liner may be installed after the shaft is excavated. Temporary or permanent supports, grout, and anchoring systems are used to stabilize the lining and interface with the surrounding rock. Access openings and inspection points are typically integrated into the design to facilitate maintenance.

Typical applications include mining shafts for ore and ventilation, water wells and boreholes requiring permanent casing, and other vertical structures where a protected, accessible conduit is needed.
