Sarkomartige

Sarkomartige (also referred to as *sarcomatoid* or *sarcomatous*) describes a pattern of cellular growth observed in certain types of tumors. The term originates from the Greek words *sarx* (meaning flesh) and *eidos* (meaning form), indicating a resemblance to sarcoma—a type of malignant tumor derived from connective tissue. Sarkomartige features are characterized by spindle-shaped or elongated cells with a disorganized arrangement, often accompanied by increased mitotic activity and a tendency toward aggressive behavior.

This pattern is not exclusive to sarcomas but can appear in various carcinomas, particularly those of epithelial origin, such as renal cell carcinoma, bladder carcinoma, and some lung cancers. The presence of sarkomartige elements may indicate a more advanced stage of malignancy, potentially leading to poorer prognosis due to increased invasiveness and resistance to conventional treatments. Histological examination, including immunohistochemistry, is essential for accurate diagnosis, as it helps differentiate sarkomartige changes from true sarcomas.

While the exact mechanisms driving sarkomartige transformation remain under investigation, factors such as genetic mutations, epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and tumor microenvironment interactions are thought to play roles. Treatment approaches typically follow those of the primary tumor type, though surgical resection, chemotherapy, and targeted therapies may be adjusted based on individual pathology findings. Further research is ongoing to better understand and manage tumors exhibiting sarkomartige features.
