Saiyans

Saiyans are a fictional humanoid warrior race from the Dragon Ball media franchise created by Akira Toriyama. They originate on Planet Vegeta and are known for their natural combat aptitude, rapid power development, and a culture that values strength and conquest. Physically, Saiyans are typically tall and muscular, with dark hair that commonly stays spiked. Many possess a tail, which enables the Great Ape transformation when exposed to the light of a full moon. They also display a strong aptitude for ki control, flight, and energy-based techniques, and can experience a significant power boost after recovering from injuries (the Zenkai effect).

Culture and society center on warrior training and combat prowess. Saiyan society historically emphasized military rank and the glory of conquest, with a royal class governing Planet Vegeta. In practice, many Saiyans were employed as mercenaries or soldiers by external powers, most notably Frieza, before the planet’s destruction. After Vegeta and other survivors were scattered across the universe, some Saiyans integrated with other civilizations, including Earth’s defenders, while retaining their warrior instincts.

History and key events outline a tumultuous arc. Planet Vegeta was destroyed by Frieza, leaving only a few survivors, such as Kakarot (Goku) and Vegeta. These survivors and their descendants became central to the series’ narrative, exploring themes of identity, loyalty, and personal growth.

Transformations and power progression include multiple forms. The base Saiyan form leads to Super Saiyan and its higher stages (Super Saiyan 2 and 3 in some arcs). Later, godly forms such as Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue are introduced, often requiring ritual, training, or divine energy.
