SPECjbb2000

SPECjbb2000 is a Java-based benchmark designed to measure the performance of server-side Java applications. It simulates a typical enterprise workload, specifically an online transaction processing (OLTP) environment. The benchmark focuses on the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) and the underlying hardware's ability to handle multiple concurrent users executing complex business logic.

The SPECjbb2000 workload consists of a three-tier architecture: a web tier, an application tier, and a database tier. The application tier is the core of the benchmark, where Java code performs operations such as order entry, order status checking, and inventory management. The benchmark measures the throughput in terms of "jBBops" (Java Business Operations) per second, which represents the number of transactions completed within a given time. Higher jBBops values indicate better performance.

SPECjbb2000 was developed by the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC), a non-profit organization that sets industry-standard benchmarks for computer systems. It was released in 2000 and became widely used for evaluating server performance, particularly for Java-based enterprise systems. While SPECjbb2000 is an older benchmark, it has been influential in the development of subsequent Java server benchmarks.
