The most common SPC tools include control charts. Control charts are graphical representations of process data over time. They plot data points along with upper and lower control limits. Points falling outside these limits, or exhibiting specific patterns within the limits, indicate the presence of special causes of variation that require investigation and corrective action.

Other SPC techniques include Pareto charts, which help prioritize problems by identifying the most frequent causes of defects, and cause-and-effect diagrams (also known as fishbone diagrams), used to explore potential causes of a problem. Histograms are used to visualize the distribution of data, and scatter diagrams help identify relationships between two variables.

Implementing SPC methods allows organizations to proactively identify and address potential problems before they lead to significant issues, improving product quality, reducing waste, and increasing customer satisfaction. It is a core component of quality management systems and lean manufacturing principles.
