Röntgentomografiaa

Röntgentomografiaa, commonly known as CT scanning or CAT scanning, is a medical imaging technique that uses X-rays to create cross-sectional images of the body. It works by taking multiple X-ray images from different angles around the body. A computer then processes these images to create detailed cross-sectional views, often referred to as slices. These slices can then be reassembled by the computer to create three-dimensional representations of the internal structures.

The process involves a patient lying on a table that moves through a doughnut-shaped X-ray machine. As the table moves, the X-ray tube rotates around the patient, emitting a narrow beam of X-rays. Detectors on the opposite side of the X-ray tube measure the amount of X-rays that pass through the body. Different tissues absorb X-rays to varying degrees, with denser tissues like bone absorbing more than softer tissues like muscle or organs. This differential absorption is what allows the computer to differentiate between various structures in the body.

CT scans are widely used for diagnosing a variety of conditions, including bone injuries, tumors, blood clots, and internal bleeding. They are particularly useful for visualizing bone, soft tissues, and blood vessels. The procedure is generally painless and relatively quick. In some cases, a contrast agent, either ingested or injected, may be used to enhance the visibility of certain tissues or blood vessels. While CT scans involve radiation, the benefits often outweigh the risks for diagnostic purposes.
