Ruumikütteallikad

Ruumikütteallikad, also known as Arctic fox cubs, are the young of the Arctic fox (Vulpes lagopus). They are born in underground dens, typically in April or May, after a gestation period of about 50 days. The litter size varies but usually consists of 4-6 cubs. Newborn cubs are blind and helpless, with a thick coat of white fur that provides camouflage against the snowy background of their Arctic habitat.

The cubs remain in the den for the first few weeks of their life, relying on their mother for warmth and nutrition. They begin to venture out of the den around two weeks old, although they still do not have functional eyesight. The mother brings them food, which she regurgitates for them to eat. The cubs' eyes open around two to three weeks after birth, and they start to explore their surroundings more actively.

By the time they are about a month old, the cubs are weaned and can begin to hunt for themselves. However, they still rely on their mother for protection and guidance. The cubs reach sexual maturity at around 10 months of age. Arctic fox cubs have a high mortality rate due to predation, especially from larger predators like wolves and wolverines, as well as from starvation and exposure.

Arctic foxes are known for their adaptability and resilience, and their cubs are no exception. They play a crucial role in the population dynamics of Arctic fox colonies, as they help to maintain and increase the species' numbers.
