Runproducing

Runproducing is an informal term used in the entertainment industry to describe the set of production-management tasks that occur during the active run of a project. It refers to the ongoing work required to maintain operations after a production has opened or begun broadcasting. Because practices vary by field, run-producing is not a single formal job title but a collection of duties that may be carried out by different professionals such as producers, line producers, or production managers.

In theatre, a run begins after opening night and continues for the show's scheduled period, possibly with extensions. A run producer oversees daily operations during the run, including performance scheduling, understudy coverage, venue coordination, budget management for the ongoing run, front-of-house logistics, safety compliance, and liaison with touring companies or alternate venues. They work alongside stage management, designers, and the show's executive producers to preserve the run's continuity.

In television and film, run-producing describes the ongoing production-management work that keeps a show or film series moving through its episodes or releases. Responsibilities can include keeping schedules on track, coordinating with writers and directors on ongoing production, managing staffing changes, adjusting budgets for additional episodes or seasons, and coordinating with networks, distributors, and unions. In practice, these tasks are often handled by line producers or production managers, with creative oversight supplied by a showrunner or executive producers.

Because of varying formats and contracts, run-producing is not a universal job title; rather, it is a contextual description of ongoing production management during a show's or project's run.
