Rullakalvot

Rullakalvot, also known as roller membranes or rolled membranes, are a type of membrane filtration technology primarily used in industrial water treatment and purification processes. These membranes are characterized by their construction, where the semi-permeable membrane material is rolled into a spiral or pleated configuration. This design maximizes the surface area available for filtration within a compact module, making them highly efficient for large-scale operations.

The manufacturing process typically involves coating a porous support material with the active filtration layer. This layered material is then cut into specific shapes and rolled around a central perforated tube, often with spacers to create flow channels. The spirally wound arrangement allows the feed water to flow across the membrane surface while the permeate (filtered water) passes through and collects in the central tube.

Rullakalvot are employed in various applications, including reverse osmosis (RO) for desalination and high-purity water production, nanofiltration (NF) for removing divalent ions and larger molecules, and ultrafiltration (UF) for separating suspended solids and macromolecules. Their advantages include high flux rates, good resistance to fouling, and a relatively small footprint compared to other membrane configurations. Maintenance typically involves periodic cleaning to remove accumulated contaminants and restore filtration efficiency. The choice of membrane material and pore size is critical and depends on the specific contaminants to be removed and the desired purity of the treated water.
