RomaViterbo

RomaViterbo is a non‑profit partnership established in 2015 to foster cultural, educational and economic collaboration between the city of Rome and the province of Viterbo in central Italy. The organization is managed by a board composed of representatives from municipal governments, universities, arts collectives and local businesses. Its stated mission is to promote mutual understanding and shared development by supporting joint initiatives in the arts, heritage conservation, tourism and sustainable urban planning.

The partnership’s inaugural project was a biennial contemporary art festival that alternated between the Forum of the Vatican City and the historic center of Viterbo, featuring installations, performances and lecture series. Parallel to the cultural agenda, RomaViterbo launched a student exchange program that saw over 300 high‑school and university students participate in cross‑regional workshops focused on digital media and environmental design. In addition, the organization has coordinated heritage preservation efforts, including a joint grant program for the restoration of medieval churches in Viterbo and the preservation of ancient taphonomic sites near Rome.

RomaViterbo’s activities have attracted funding from the European Union’s Regional Development Fund, national cultural grants, and private sponsorships. As of 2024, the partnership reports having organized more than 15 festivals, 45 academic conferences and facilitated the creation of 12 co‑authored research projects. Looking ahead, RomaViterbo plans to expand its reach by creating a digital platform for collaborative online exhibitions, strengthening ties with other Italian regions, and pursuing a joint sustainable tourism strategy that leverages Rome’s global appeal and Viterbo’s rural heritage.
