Reumatoidses

Reumatoidses is a Finnish term that translates to rheumatoid in English. It refers to a chronic autoimmune disease known as rheumatoid arthritis. In rheumatoid arthritis, the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues, primarily the synovium, which is the lining of the membranes that surround the joints. This attack causes inflammation, leading to pain, swelling, stiffness, and eventually joint damage and deformity.

The exact cause of rheumatoid arthritis is not fully understood, but it is believed to be a combination of genetic predisposition and environmental factors. It commonly affects the small joints of the hands and feet, but can also impact larger joints and other organs such as the skin, eyes, lungs, and heart. Symptoms can vary greatly in severity and may come and go in periods called flares.

Diagnosis typically involves a physical examination, medical history, blood tests to detect specific antibodies and markers of inflammation, and imaging studies such as X-rays, ultrasounds, or MRIs to assess joint damage. There is no cure for rheumatoid arthritis, but treatments aim to manage symptoms, reduce inflammation, prevent joint damage, and improve quality of life. These treatments can include medications like disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), biologic agents, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and corticosteroids, as well as physical therapy and occupational therapy. In some cases, surgery may be considered to repair or replace damaged joints.
