Repültér

Repültér is a Hungarian term used to describe an airfield or landing area for aviation activities. It generally refers to smaller facilities than a full-fledged airport (repülőtér) and can denote grass strips, paved runways, or field sites used by light aircraft, gliders, or sport aviation.

Typical repültérs have basic infrastructure, such as a runway or landing surface and a shelter or hangar. They often lack extensive passenger facilities or air traffic control and may operate as uncontrolled aerodromes. Operations are usually conducted under visual flight rules, with radio communication to nearby air traffic services as required by regulations.

Use of repültérs spans recreational pilots, flying clubs, flight training for light aircraft, gliders, ultralight or microlight aviation, and occasionally emergency services or agricultural aviation. They may be publicly or privately owned and can operate seasonally or under specific local restrictions related to noise, safety, or weather.

Distinction from repülőtér: while both terms refer to places where aircraft take off and land, repültér emphasizes an airfield with more limited infrastructure and services, whereas repülőtér denotes a more developed facility more akin to an airport. In practice, the boundary between the two can be fluid, depending on local usage and regulatory classification.

Regulation and safety: repültérs are governed by national aviation regulations regarding pilot licensing, aircraft maintenance, and safe operation. They must comply with airspace rules, weather requirements, and local bylaws. These airfields contribute to general and sport aviation by providing access points for training, recreation, and specialized operations.
