Reisadalen

Reisadalen, or the Reisadalen valley, is a valley in Northern Norway, located in Nordreisa Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county. The valley runs through the interior of the municipality and is traversed by the Reisaelva river, which originates in the high mountains to the east and flows toward the Reisafjord. The landscape features rugged mountains, river gorges, and numerous waterfalls, making it a defining natural corridor in the region.

Reisa National Park lies within Reisadalen, protecting parts of the river valley and its geological and botanical features. The park preserves the Reisa River and surrounding landscapes, including gorges and the prominent Reisafossen waterfall. The area supports boreal forest and alpine habitats and hosts wildlife such as moose and a variety of bird species.

Historically, the valley has been inhabited by the Sámi people, with traditional livelihoods such as reindeer herding evident in the cultural landscape. In the 19th and 20th centuries, forestry and settlement developments shaped the valley, while conservation efforts in the late 20th century focused on preserving its natural character.

Today Reisadalen is a destination for nature-based tourism and outdoor recreation. Common activities include hiking on marked trails, birdwatching, fishing in the Reisaelva, and winter sports in the surrounding highlands. Access is via local roads from the municipal center of Storslett and nearby communities, with park facilities and trailheads concentrated at the valley’s entrances.
