Receptiveness refers to the willingness to consider, accept, or engage with new ideas, information, or experiences, and to listen to others' perspectives. It entails openness to change and a readiness to update beliefs or behaviors in light of evidence or differing viewpoints. Receptiveness is not synonymous with gullibility or uncritical agreement; it implies a measured, evaluative openness rather than passivity.

In psychology and communication, receptiveness spans cognitive, affective, and social dimensions. cognitively, it involves flexible thinking and the capacity to suspend judgment. socially, it involves listening, empathy, and respect for different positions. Emotionally, it reflects tolerance for uncertainty and discomfort associated with change.
