Reblueing
Reblueing is a process used to restore the finish on blued steel firearm components. Bluing, also known as blackening, is a passivation process that creates a stable layer of magnetite (Fe3O4) on the surface of steel, providing protection against rust and a desirable black or blue-black appearance. Over time and with use, this blued finish can wear away, exposing the underlying steel and making it susceptible to corrosion.
Reblueing aims to recreate this protective and aesthetic layer. There are several methods for reblueing, broadly
Cold bluing, on the other hand, is a more accessible method often used for touch-ups or minor
