Rappeuttavien (Finnish for "curing" or "healing") refers to the traditional and folk practices aimed at restoring health, treating illnesses, and promoting well-being in Finnish culture. These methods often draw from indigenous knowledge, herbalism, and spiritual beliefs, blending natural remedies with cultural practices passed down through generations.

Finnish rappemetsät, or "healing forests," were historically considered sacred spaces where healers gathered medicinal plants like St. John's wort, yarrow, and birch bark. Healers, known as *parantajat* or *lääkärimiehet* (folk healers), used these plants to create remedies for ailments ranging from wounds and digestive issues to more complex conditions. Their techniques included poultices, infusions, and spiritual rituals, often incorporating prayers or chants to invoke protection or healing.

Rappeuttavien practices also included physical methods such as cupping, bloodletting, and massage, which were believed to balance the body’s energies. Some healers practiced divination, using methods like reading animal behavior or interpreting dreams to diagnose illnesses. While many of these methods were rooted in empirical observation, others relied on animistic beliefs, attributing health to the harmony between humans and nature.

Over time, rappemetsät and folk healing declined with the spread of modern medicine in the 19th and 20th centuries. However, interest in traditional knowledge has revived in recent years, with some Finns exploring herbalism and alternative therapies as complementary approaches to health. Today, rappemetsät are sometimes revisited in wellness retreats, where participants seek relaxation and connection to nature, though their original healing significance remains a subject of cultural preservation and study.
