Rakennusteräksiä

Rakennusteräksiä, often translated as construction steel or reinforcing steel, refers to steel bars or mesh used to strengthen concrete structures. Concrete is strong in compression but weak in tension, and steel possesses high tensile strength, making the combination ideal for building. The steel reinforcement prevents concrete from cracking and failing under tensile stress.

The most common type of rakennusteräksiä is rebar, short for reinforcing bar. These are typically ribbed to improve adhesion with the concrete.
