Rakeia

Rakeia is a fictional archipelago and sovereign state in the southern seas of the world of Aradia. The name derives from the Rak word rakha meaning windward. The realm comprises 18 inhabited islands and several islets, totaling about 12,500 square kilometers. The archipelago has a tropical maritime climate, with lush lowlands, mangrove forests, and coral reefs. The capital and largest city is Port Liora on the central island of Neral, which also hosts the national government.

First settled c. 900 CE by seafaring clans, Rakeia became a trading hub under the Aurel Confederation in the 16th century. It achieved independence in 1823 and established a constitutional framework in the late 20th century, with a further decentralization in 2003.

Rakeia is a parliamentary republic. The president acts as ceremonial head of state; the prime minister is head of government and leads a unicameral legislature elected by proportional representation. Island councils retain local powers.

The economy combines fisheries and aquaculture, tourism, and light manufacturing. Key exports include tuna, coconuts, citrus, and spice oils. The currency is the Rake (RK).

Raki and Lirian are the dominant languages. The population practices a syncretic belief system blending ancestral rites with coastal spirituality. Cultural life emphasizes seafaring heritage, wind music, and craft traditions such as basketry and loom weaving. Festivals include the Wind Festival and Harvest Moon.

Notable features include the Rakeia Reef and Blue Ring Marine Reserve, which protect diverse marine life. The archipelago faces climate risks, particularly sea-level rise and cyclone activity.
