Radiograf

Radiograf is a professional title used in several languages to denote a radiographer, a healthcare professional who performs diagnostic imaging procedures and supports image-guided care. The role focuses on producing high-quality medical images while prioritizing patient safety and comfort, and on coordinating with physicians and radiologists to ensure accurate interpretation.

Role and responsibilities include planning and performing radiographic examinations, correctly positioning patients, and selecting appropriate exposure factors to optimize image quality while minimizing radiation dose. Radiographers operate imaging equipment such as X-ray generators, fluoroscopy units, and, in some settings, computed tomography scanners. They may assist with interventional radiology procedures under supervision, handle image processing and archiving, and document findings and patient information. Communication with patients to explain procedures and address concerns is also an essential duty.

Education and regulation typically require completion of a formal radiography program, resulting in a diploma or bachelor’s degree. Graduates often must register or obtain licensure with national or regional regulatory bodies and participate in ongoing continuing education to maintain professional status. The scope of practice and regulatory requirements vary by country or jurisdiction, reflecting differences in healthcare systems and professional oversight.

Safety and ethics are central to the profession. Radiographers are trained in radiation protection principles, apply ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) standards, use shielding and dosimetry monitoring, and follow infection control and patient privacy protocols. They work in hospitals, clinics, and imaging centers, sometimes as part of multidisciplinary teams that include radiologists and other clinicians.
