Räystäs is the overhanging edge of a roof that projects beyond the exterior walls of a building. The term is used in Nordic languages, including Swedish and Finnish, to describe the horizontal line formed by the roof edge as it shelters the wall below. The overhang is typically supported by the roof structure, such as rafters or a timber or metal framework, and is finished with elements like a fascia board and, on the underside, a soffit.
