Puukoolide
Puukoolide is the Estonian term for wood schools, referring to institutions or programs that teach woodworking and carpentry skills. Historically, puukoolid operated in rural areas and smaller communities as practical training facilities for apprentices and hobbyists. They were often organized by municipalities, churches, trade associations, or local networks connected to the timber and construction trades. The emphasis was on hands-on learning and the use of real projects to develop competence in areas such as timber selection, tool handling, joinery, furniture making, basic construction, and wood finishing, with some courses incorporating literacy and mathematics as needed.
In practice, puukoolide varied in scope from short courses aimed at beginners to longer apprenticeship-style formats.
