Puskuriviiveestä
Puskuriviiveestä, known in English as bufferbloat, refers to an excessive amount of buffered data that can build up in network equipment, particularly routers. This buffering, while intended to smooth out traffic flow and prevent data loss, can lead to increased latency and unpredictable network performance if it becomes too large. When a router's buffer fills up, new packets have to wait longer to be transmitted, resulting in delays for all users sharing that connection. This is especially noticeable in interactive applications like online gaming, video conferencing, and voice calls, where even small increases in delay can significantly degrade the user experience.
The phenomenon of puskuriviiveestä became more prominent with the rise of broadband internet speeds and the
