Pupustõrje

Pupustõrje refers to measures and methods employed to prevent or control the presence of rabbits, particularly wild rabbits, in areas where they can cause damage. These areas often include gardens, agricultural fields, orchards, and even residential properties. The primary goal of pupustõrje is to protect vegetation, crops, and infrastructure from the feeding habits and burrowing activities of rabbits.

Various approaches can be taken for pupustõrje. Physical barriers are a common and effective method. This involves installing fencing or netting around the area to be protected. The fencing needs to be sufficiently tall to prevent rabbits from jumping over and should ideally extend a short distance into the ground or have a base to deter burrowing underneath. Repellents, both commercial and homemade, are also used. These can include substances with strong odors or tastes that rabbits find unpleasant, such as certain plant-based sprays or even human hair. However, the effectiveness of repellents can vary and they often require reapplication, especially after rain.

Another strategy involves habitat modification. Reducing the availability of shelter and hiding places for rabbits, such as dense undergrowth or piles of debris, can make an area less attractive to them. Trapping is also a method used in some situations, though it requires knowledge of local regulations and humane practices. In agricultural settings, integrated pest management approaches may incorporate pupustõrje as one component alongside other pest control strategies. The choice of pupustõrje method often depends on the scale of the problem, the specific environment, and personal preferences regarding humane treatment of animals.
