Pulsmessung, also known as pulse monitoring or pulse taking, is the process of measuring a person's heart rate. This is typically done by detecting the rhythmic expansion and contraction of arteries caused by the pumping action of the heart. The most common method involves placing the index and middle fingers on a superficial artery, such as the radial artery at the wrist or the carotid artery in the neck, and feeling for the pulse. The number of pulses felt in a minute is then counted, providing the heart rate in beats per minute (bpm).
