Proterochampsidae
Proterochampsidae is an extinct family of pseudosuchian reptiles that lived during the Late Triassic period. These animals were characterized by their armored bodies, often featuring osteoderms along their backs and flanks. Proterochampsids were relatively small to medium-sized, with many species ranging from less than a meter to about two meters in length. Their skulls were typically elongated and narrow, and they possessed strong jaws suited for a predatory lifestyle. The exact position of proterochampsids within pseudosuchian phylogeny has been a subject of debate, but they are generally considered to be a distinct and early diverging lineage, possibly related to the ancestors of crocodilians or other archosaurian groups.
Fossils of proterochampsids have been found primarily in South America, particularly in Argentina and Brazil. These
