Primärförslutning

Primärförslutning refers to the initial sealing of a wound or surgical incision. This process is crucial for healing and preventing infection. The primary goal of primary closure is to bring the edges of the wound together as closely as possible to allow for rapid healing by first intention. This typically involves techniques like suturing, stapling, or using adhesive strips.

The success of primary closure depends on several factors. The wound should be relatively fresh, clean, and free from significant tissue damage or contamination. Wounds that are older, heavily contaminated, or have extensive tissue loss may be better managed with delayed primary closure or secondary intention healing, where the wound is left open to heal from the bottom up.

When primary closure is appropriate, meticulous technique is employed to minimize tension on the wound edges. Excessive tension can lead to poor healing, dehiscence (wound separation), and increased scarring. The choice of closure method depends on the wound's size, location, and depth, as well as the surgeon's preference and available materials. Post-operative care following primary closure often involves keeping the wound clean and dry and monitoring for signs of infection.
