Preocupació

Preocupació refers to the state of being worried or anxious about something, a concept widely recognized in both psychology and everyday language. The term originates from the Latin *preoccupatio*, derived from *preoccupare*, meaning "to occupy beforehand." In Catalan, it is commonly used to describe a mental or emotional response to perceived threats, challenges, or uncertainties in one’s life.

Preocupació can manifest in various forms, ranging from mild anxiety about daily tasks to intense distress over significant life events. It often involves rumination—repeatedly thinking about potential negative outcomes—which may impact concentration, sleep, and overall well-being. While some level of concern is normal and even adaptive, excessive or persistent preoccupació can indicate an underlying condition such as generalized anxiety disorder.
