Precwalkers

Precwalkers are a unique and fascinating group of animals that exhibit a combination of characteristics typically associated with both precocial and altricial species. Precocial animals are those that are relatively independent and mobile soon after hatching, while altricial species are those that are helpless and dependent on their parents for a longer period. Precwalkers, therefore, are animals that show some level of independence and mobility shortly after birth, but still require some level of parental care.

The term "precwalker" was coined to describe a specific type of precocial behavior in birds, particularly in the family Anatidae, which includes ducks, geese, and swans. In these birds, the young are able to walk and forage for food soon after hatching, but they still rely on their parents for protection and guidance. This behavior is thought to have evolved as an adaptation to the open and often dangerous environments in which kangaroos live.
