Postoscillation

Postoscillation is a term used in signal processing and control theory to describe the phenomenon where a system continues to exhibit oscillatory behavior after the cessation of its driving force or input. This lingering oscillation is not a result of the current input but rather a consequence of the system's inherent dynamics and its state at the moment the input was removed. Think of it like a pendulum that, after being pushed, continues to swing back and forth for a while due to its momentum and the forces of gravity and friction.

The duration and amplitude of postoscillation depend on several factors, including the system's damping characteristics. Systems with low damping tend to exhibit more pronounced and longer-lasting postoscillation, as energy is dissipated slowly.
