Postboxars

Postboxars are a fictional genus of small, nocturnal, arboreal marsupials described in the world-building setting of the Valoria region.

Taxonomy and name: The genus Postboxarus belongs to the family Mailidae in this universe; the type species is Postboxarus typicus.

Description: Adults measure 12–16 cm in body length with a prehensile tail and dense grey-brown fur. They have a pale facial mask and a distinctive white patch on the chest. They feed on leaves, fruit, seeds, and occasional insects.

Habitat and behavior: They inhabit temperate forests at mid to high elevations, favor hollow trees for nesting, and are mainly solitary except during breeding. Vocalizations are soft chirps used for territorial cues.

Reproduction: Breeding occurs in late winter; females nurse young in a pouch for about 2–3 months; litters usually one to two young; juveniles stay with mother for several months after emerging.
