Positiotarkkuus is a Finnish neologism that combines the concepts of positivity and perceptual sharpness. The word, derived from *positiivinen* (positive) and *tarkkuus* (accuracy, precision), is used to describe a heightened sensitivity to, and accurate perception of, affirmative or constructive elements in communication and perception. It is primarily used within the fields of applied linguistics, cognitive psychology, and discourse analysis. In applied linguistics, positiotarkkuus refers to a speaker’s ability to discern and use positive language patterns that enhance collaborative interaction. Cognitive psychologists employ the term when they quantify the accuracy of participants’ recognition of positive framing in experimental stimuli. In discourse analysis, positiotarkkuus is applied to evaluate texts for proactive or supportive language, identifying the precision with which positivity is conveyed.

The concept emerged in the early 2010s as a response to growing interest in positive psychology and its practical applications in organizational communication and education.
